INTRODUCTION
The
naming of a clan is a very sacred process. It is not dictated by the
creativity alone of the facilitator, but is rather more of a download of information that best represents the existing energy
of the group as a whole. Through intuition, meditation, inspiration,
imagination, observation and deep listening the clan is named, not by a
human, but through a human by the unseen energy source that connects us
all one to another.
We are but reflections of one another, until we are
reflecting only what is inside of our heart of hearts from our purest
essence. And we will then each be one to another the most persistent of
reminders of the greatness that lies within each of us. For it is then that we are
projecting the most essential part of our highest and finest selves
from the very core of our being. And so it is wise to pay attention to
everything and everyone that comes into your space. Let no blessing go unnoticed and no message go
unheard. Be not fooled by the wrapping paper on the gift or the cover on
the book.
And so with this, we have the
naming of this Addiction Alchemy tribe on June 10, 2007:

ENERGIES
EMOTIONS & CREATIVITY
MERMAID
POWER
Didn't every little girl sit at the edge of the ocean (or the bathtub)
and pretended that she was a beautiful mermaid, a sea nymph so lovely
and rare? The freedom of
being able to traverse the undersea world just holds so much
fascination. It is a place of no limits, no fears and complete freedom
to cavort in the playful sea, cradled in those watery arms and JUST BE.
The grown up mermaid is the woman
who has big dreams, who believes in magic and fairy tales and mystical
creatures. She likes to put a touch of magic and beauty in everything
that she does. She is not afraid to experience her full range of
emotions because she comes from the water, the place of emotions. This
is her domain. She creates from a place of pure feeling.
The bare-breasted mermaid
signifies deep honor in being a woman and mermaid has unrestrained
delight in being a creature of exquisite beauty. Merely being in the
presence of a mermaid will uplift and inspire you to create magic in
your life.
She will inspire you to let your
beauty be fully expressed in the physical and to embrace your own
loveliness. She will help you banish fears surrounding this, such as
fears of not being beautiful enough, being too beautiful, or misusing
your beauty such as gaining weight for protection or binging and purging
or starving yourself. Mermaid will help you settle into your own
physical beauty as you follow her lead and express yourself with joy
from the deepest part of your soul.
MERMAID’S MESSAGE
CREATE FROM YOUR HEART!
Mermaid empowers you to tap into your deepest creative forces. And yes,
that includes your sexuality. She teaches us how to flow our ideas, our
thoughts, our emotions and feelings, our actions and our love. She knows
that this flow is how we actually create and she is here to help us
break the dam of anything that may be blocking our energies.
If Mermaid is speaking to you, it is likely that you have not been
allowing the full expression of the deepest part of yourself and you may
not know how or why. You may not know what it is that you want to
create. You may have too many ideas and don't know how to focus. You may
lack confidence in your ability to create. If these are your issues, you
can be sure that mermaid will come in and lure you into the deepest part
of the sea and show you the magical land below the waves. She will show
you how to access this place anytime you need to.
Mermaid is something of a muse, as
well as a guide. She loves to create beautiful objects and leave them
for you to find...mostly in your dreams is where she hides them. She is
that part of you that loves to play and be joyful. As with most sea
creatures she is the embodiment of playfulness and fun. And she will
help you to access this part of your soul, the part of you that wants to
be totally free and fluid enough to express yourself from that deep
place within.
Mermaid is a pearl harvester. When
it's time she'll visit the oyster beds and collect those lustrous orbs
in her purse and take them back to her cave. This holds deep
significance for our ability to create beautiful and rare things out of
our sorrows and weaknesses. She's also a true
scavenger and the original "found objects" artist. Inside the mermaid's cave you'll find all kinds of treasure,
bits and pieces of anything she finds fascinating. Objects galore, some
precious, some rare, some common and ordinary. But it matters not, for
she is the keeper of these deeply submerged treasures and they all have
great meaning to her, if nothing more than "they looked pretty".
Mermaid totally understands the
need for beauty and that in fact, beauty is not frivolous at all. She
tells us that when we behold something beautiful that we are accessing
the divine. And she reminds us, beauty is not some cookie cutter
pattern. After all that's why she collects so many different things!
Beauty is inspiring, exotic, mysterious, lovely and UNIQUE all at the
same time.
At the same time if we become
overly vested in the effect that our beauty has on others, we invoke the
energy of the sea siren, whose deadly shrill song can lure sailors to
their death. Even mermaid has her shadow side and alter ego. She teaches
us to enjoy beauty for beauty's sake and not for what it can do for you,
reminding us that beauty should be a delight for the eye and not to be
used for manipulation.
MERMAID
SAYS…
It's time to visit your undersea treasure cave. It's time to harvest
those pearls. It's time to tap into the deepest, most unique part of you
and create from your soul. Don't worry she says, it will be an original,
because there's no way that any two mermaid caves have just the same
bounty! That would be impossible, since everything in the cave has been
lovingly amassed since the first day that the curious little mermaid
started collecting her treasures.
And don't forget about the less
obvious forms of creation. Did you know, she says, that everyday when
you get out of bed and you get dressed you are creating? Each day you
are creating YOU! It matters not how much or how little effort you put
into this, you are still making a statement. And your soul IS being
expressed. So think about that, she says to us as her beautiful flowing
locks of hair dance around her face. Don't deny your beauty, for your
first creation is yourself!
Engaging in creative activities is
the call. This requires diving in deep to the body of emotional waters.
It requires that you become unafraid to feel your feelings. For your
feelings are what drive your ability to create. They don't call it
e-motion for nothing. It is what puts you in motion. So dive into your
deep lake, mermaid says, and come up with a handful of treasure!

ORIGINS OF MERMAID
Chaldaea
Many cultures have stories for the origin of the mermaid. The Irish say
that they are old pagan women transformed to mermaid shape and banished
off the earth by Saint Patrick. A Livonian folktale says that they are
Pharaoh's children drowned in the Red Sea. And still others insist that
the mermaids' origin, at least in concept, began as the sea deities of
ancient religions, such as the Chaldean Oannes, who appeared on earth
every day and plunged into the sea every night.
At Babylon there was (in these times) a great resort of people of
various nations, who inhabited Chaldaea, and lived in a lawless manner
like the beasts of the field. In the first year there appeared, from
that part of the Erythraean sea which borders upon Babylonia, an animal
destitute of reason [sic], by name Oannes, whose whole body (according
to the account of Apollodorus) was that of a fish, that under the fish's
head he had another head, with feet also below, similar to those of a
man, subjoined to the fish's tail. His voice too, and language, was
articulated and human, and a representation of him is preserved even to
this day.
"This Being was accustomed to pass
the day among men; but took no food at that season; and he gave them an
insight into letters and sciences, and arts of every kind. He taught
them to construct cities, to found temples, to compile laws, and
explained to them the principles of geometrical knowledge. He made them
distinguish the seeds of the earth, and showed them how to collect the
fruits; in short, he instructed them in everything which could tend to
soften manners and humanize their lives. From that time, nothing
material has been added by way of improvement to his instructions. And
when the sun had set, this Being Oannes, retired again into the sea, and
passed the night in the deep; for he was amphibious. After this there
appeared other animals like Oannes."
